The Culinary Services department is expanding campus dining options with Grubhub Mobile Order Pickup. Initially introduced in the fall semester of 2025, this service has expanded to six locations across MSU.
Grubhub Mobile Order Pickup is a service guests can use to pre-order meals from the Grubhub app. Payments can be made through MSU dining plans (Combo-X-Change), Spartan Cash or debit/credit.
"Many students appreciate the convenience, efficiency and ease of use the platform provides, making it a valued part of their dining experience,” says East Neighborhood Dining Service Complex Manager Angie Simpson. “The program has also played a key role in broadening students’ palates by introducing them to a diverse range of global flavors and cuisines — many of which they may not have experienced prior to attending MSU.”
Skipping long lines, personalized menu selections and the option for students to save more by signing up for Grubhub+ are a few of the benefits.
"Breakfast may not open until 9 a.m. in some dining halls. So, we have ensured that we have this Grubhub option somewhere within that neighborhood so that students can get a hot breakfast between 7-9 a.m.,” says Associate Director of Residential Dining Don Donagrandi. “It won’t be as extensive as the dining hall breakfast, but it will be prepared to order and give them that option to have something available for them earlier in the day.”
Sparty’s Market at Holden and Holmes, Sparty’s at Brody and The Sandbox at Holden were the first spots to offer these convenient options. Some highlights include dirty sodas, cinnamon rolls and build-your-own burgers, sandwiches and wraps.
Now, Sparty’s Market at MSU Union and The Workshop at STEM are joining the lineup of locations offering this service.
Donagrandi shared that the Residential Dining team continues to focus on making this more accessible, especially during peak times when students are in class. With these new additions located near the center of campus, students have a convenient option that is just a short distance away.
"Popularity and use of this option continue to grow among our campus community, telling us that we need to continue to expand our offerings and locations,” says Senior Executive Chef Bryan Latz. “With those additions, previously established locations are hard at work improving their menus and planning limited-time offers for the upcoming school year to keep menu offerings fresh and exciting.”
To access the perks of Grubhub Mobile Order Pickup, guests can simply download the Grubhub app and log in using their MSU account details. If the owner already has a pre-existing Grubhub account, the MSU account can be connected to it.
Ordering for pickup is easier than ever. Once in the app, guests can navigate to the My Grubhub tab, go to settings and select “Campus dining.” Select Michigan State University in the Grubhub app, then choose one of the six participating campus locations. Place your order just as you would for any standard Grubhub pickup order. Once your order is prepared, you'll receive a notification that it's ready for pickup.
All locations are open Monday through Friday during the academic year, with orders ending 30 minutes before closing.
"Overall, the response from students and guests has been very positive. Increased customer counts indicate strong acceptance and growing use of the service,” says South Neighborhood Dining Service Complex Manager Jim Hath. “Feedback has also identified opportunities for improvement, particularly in expanding menu selections and offering more customizable meal options, which could further enhance the guest experience and increase satisfaction.”
