What’s New for 2019-20

Change is all around us. From a new MSU president to a new class of Spartans, MSU’s campus is getting an update, and so are the programs and venues offered by RHS. Below you’ll find some talking points about these new, exciting features:

Spartan Compass
The Spartan Compass program at Akers and Hubbard halls is being introduced in fall 2019 as a three-year pilot program for first-year students that encourages inclusive community building and student success. The emphasis on connectivity and support within the first-year student community will help students adapt to life at MSU and the unique transitions that each new college student faces.

New Venues at the MSU Union Food Court
The new restaurant venues at the MSU Union Food Court:

  • Street Tacos: serving original street-style tacos and nachos
  • The Roost: serving favorites like mac and cheese, chicken tenders and fries
  • Unbelieva-BOWL: serving made-to-order grain, green and hummus bowls

Panera Bread Now Open
The new Panera Bread bakery-café is now open on campus at the Edward J. Minskoff Pavilion, an addition to the MSU Broad College of Business. The location opened Aug. 1. The hours of operation for Panera Bread located at 651 N. Shaw Lane are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.

Enhanced Partnership with MSU Dairy Store
The MSU Dairy Store is now the single source for hard pack (scooped) ice cream in residential dining halls. The new partnership for residential dining is part of a Food Stores initiative to build and reinforce campus partnerships. In addition to ice cream flavors, the Culinary Services team utilizes Dairy Store cheeses across campus.

Thrive: Dine Allergen Free
Thrive at Riverwalk Market at Owen Hall opened in July 2019 as the 10th all-you-care-to-eat dining hall on campus. This unique dining venue is certified free from the Big 8 food allergens (eggs, milk, soy, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish), plus sesame and gluten. Partnerships with Neogen, MenuTrinfo and Kitchens With Confidence, ensure this allergen-free dining experience will help students thrive at MSU.

Nut-Conscious at MSU Bakers
MSU Bakers is now a nut-conscious facility! All items sold are made without peanut- or tree nut-containing ingredients.

Combo-X-Change Now Available at Spartan Stadium
For the first time, Spartans will be able to use their Combo-X-Change in Spartan Stadium at a selected venue in the South endzone.
