Across campus, Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) will provide apples to diners Oct. 13 in all dining halls and retail dining locations so that guests may take part in crunching into a Michigan apple during Michigan Apple Crunch Day. Annually, Michigan Apple Crunch Day draws attention to the work of local produce farmers and raises awareness for the value of eating and buying local foods.
Acquiring food from local and regional vendors is a fundamental practice of both Culinary Services and RHS Sustainability. Over the 2015-16 school year, the division served 34.2 tons of locally grown apples. The most popular varieties among Spartan diners include gala, gold delicious, honey crisp and more.
