Kellogg Center Renovations

The Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center has a few exciting changes underway with renovations scheduled to occur between now and the end of summer, just in time for a fall of 2011 unveiling. Many of the updates are minor, but will assist Kellogg in living up to its AAA triple-diamond rating.

Leading the way, renovations to The School of Hospitality Business’ Kellogg learning facilities, known as the Culinary Business Lab, began in January in the lower level as part of a collaborative effort between the school, Residential and Hospitality Services’ Office of Design and Construction Management, TMP architectural services and MSU Engineering Services. The facilities have not been updated in nearly two decades and renovations will consist of significant updates to the display gallery, Hall of Fame, gathering space, dining area, and cooking and demonstration kitchens (including a 65-seat auditorium).

Additional updates to Kellogg will not begin until after the end of spring semester, on July 6, and will include a finish upgrade to the State Room restaurant.

All facilities are currently planned for completion in August 2011.

Throughout May to mid-July, renovation will be taking place in Kellogg’s Big Ten Rooms. The rooms, which are separated by wall dividers, combine to form one large room and the renovations will be done throughout the space. The renovation will replace all aspects of the rooms, except for the furniture. Updates include new ceilings that will feature advanced Audio/Visual (AV) equipment, as well as new lighting, walls, dividing walls and carpeting.

In addition, the hallway flooring outside of Kellogg’s Olympus room – just before the Big Ten Rooms’ corridor – has been updated with new tiling.

The dining area now features a new carpet and ceiling, while chairs and tables are yet to be placed in appropriate locations. An office room for chefs is complete and equipped with new furniture. New chairs sit at tabletops facing the demonstration kitchen, which is now ready for student use.

A new tile ceiling paired with new flooring enhances the lower-level lobby of Kellogg, and a new set of doors leading to the dining area is in place. The demonstration kitchen lab that also serves as a classroom received many updates including new carpeting, a decorative ceiling. A new tile backdrop, countertops, cabinets and sink in the demonstration kitchen have been installed. Tabletops for students overlooking the kitchen have also been installed. In addition, The School of Hospitality Business’ kitchen is cleaned and ready for students to use and insulation around the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) units is in place. Learning Lab

Quite a bit of progress has been made in the Culinary Business Lab facilities since our last update. Metal framework for the Hall of Fame and display gallery is now up in the corner of the gathering space. The demonstration classroom is also taking shape with concrete steps now in place as well an accessible ramp, with railing, along the north wall.
