Holmes Hall is the home to the Lyman Briggs residential college and is the largest residence hall on campus. The recently renovated Sparty’s convenience store includes high tech-high touch gathering spaces as well as an updated retail space and theater.
The renovations to West Holmes Hall are being done to make an even more positive first impression with a complete lobby renovation and exterior seating replacement and installation. The hallway, study lounge and elevator lobby carpet will be replaced along with the hallway furniture.
Safety and sustainability updates are also planned to include the installation of the new emergency phone system that will be in all residence halls for the fall 2010 semester.
The facility will reopen in fall 2010 with its new look.
The west lobby of Holmes Hall is completely finished in time for the new academic year. The new look blends well with the rest of the East Neighborhood revamping and the final furniture and wall treatments truly pop. A spiral, metal finishing has been added to inside pillars and painting and lighting are complete.
In addition, all West Holmes student corridors have received new lighting treatments that help to brighten up the space.
Construction in the west lobby is closer to completion with the recent installation of new ceiling tiles.
Due to summer conference scheduling, construction efforts on the West Holmes entrance have been slowed. However, in between conferences, new siding is being applied to the guest service center.
The service desk is being taken apart to prepare for a new, expanded service center. Drywall has been installed in the new circular study area and carpeting has been installed in most student corridors.
Outside, new seating benches have been installed.
Hallway lights are being replaced and new hand dryers have been installed in the bathrooms. The renovations are planned to include the whole lobby, study lounge, elevators and public restrooms of West Holmes. Several safety and sustainability updates are also planned.
