In Holden Hall’s lower-level engagement center, the health services center is complete with two patient rooms, an office, receptionist desk and patient seating. While the fitness and cardio rooms are not yet open, they are completed. The cardio room features elliptical and treadmill machines, while the fitness room now has finished flooring and a wall-to-wall mirror.
Holden Hall Phase II - South Neighborhood
Holden Hall, which was updated two years ago, is poised for further renovations this summer. By fall of 2011, expect to see a new Engagement Center at Holden (to serve all of South Neighborhood), as well as an updated dining experience for residents and guests!
The Engagement Center will exist on the first floor as well as in the Holden lower level and will include an Olin Health Services Center area, tutoring offices and intramural sports (IM) facilities. The new Holden dining hall will receive similar venue-style stations as The Gallery at Snyder/Phillips and Brody Square, including homestyle cooking, Asian cuisine, vegetarian dishes and specialty salads.
Check out our log often as we show how Holden Hall is transformed into an exciting place to live, eat and enjoy!

Updates in Holden Hall continue in the lower-level engagement center. Walls have been constructed inside the student health services center, and new furniture has been placed in a lounge area just outside the health services room. Work in the fitness and cardio rooms continues steadily. Work is also complete in the first-floor engagement center, bringing close and convenient study and activity spaces to students where they live.
The Holden Dining Hall renovation project has been completed, just in time for the start of fall semester.

The RHA main office, part of Holden Hall’s lower-level Engagement Center, is nearing completion with the arrival of new chairs for the main desk and a refrigerator for the kitchenette. A decorative half-wall separating the kitchenette from the main-desk area is now in place, and in the fitness room wall mirrors have been installed along the wall opposite from the doorway.
Next to the fitness room, in what used to be the RHA main office, workers are tearing out the current flooring and will turn the room into a cardio fitness room. Workers are still installing metal framing inside the health services area.

Renovation within Holden Hall is ongoing, as workers are fine-tuning all appliances in the dining hall to ensure they operate properly. A newly constructed wall is in place, separating the kitchen from the main dining area and a colorful border along the bottom of a serving station has been installed. While there are no major updates left in the dining hall, workers will continue to add finishing touches and conduct staff training.
In the lower-level Engagement Center, carpeting in the Residence Halls Association (RHA) office is complete and is complemented by a new cabinet system, a main desk at the entryway and desks with chairs. In addition, both the RHA movie room and conference room are now equipped with desks and chairs. New carpeting has been installed in the Facilities Office and workers are busy installing metal framing in the health services area, which will be completed by the end of September.

Progress continues at Holden Hall, with counters, ovens, stove-tops, serving areas and other appliances arriving in the dining hall. Workers are busy cleaning and painting the newly constructed walls, and moving kitchen appliances to their appropriate locations.
In the lower-level of Holden Hall’s Engagement Center, which will serve as the Engagement Center for all of South Neighborhood, wall mirrors have been installed in the fitness center. Walls have been painted throughout the Engagement Center offices and the store-front window for the health services area is now installed.

In Holden Hall, newly-constructed walls are in place in the dining hall and the above-stove hood is now installed.
In the lower level, walls leading to the Residence Halls Association (RHA) office have been painted. Bright flooring has been installed in the RHA conference room and movie room. Floor installation within the RHA office is still ongoing. Workers are continuing progress throughout the lower-level Engagement Center. With the demolition of the hallway-facing walls and the arrival of a store-front window, construction of the Olin Health Services area is progressing steadily.

A large section of ceiling tile has been cleared in Holden’s dining hall in order to make way for the installation of a hood vent. Also, in strategic areas throughout its new space, workers have securely placed blocks of wood that are meant to help hold heavy, mounted appliances in place.
Plumbing in the dining room continues. Finally, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) office in Holden’s basement saw the installation of new light fixtures near the hallway window.

Progress at Holden’s dining hall continues with the installation of plumbing under the cafeteria floor where dining stations are to be positioned. Renovation of the Residence Hall Association (RHA) office advances with the ceiling back in place and a fresh, new paint job. Additionally, the glass for the recently framed windows is installed and framing is in place around the door that leads into the conference room.

The dining hall at Holden continues to move along with preparations complete for the installation of a new above-stove hood for one of the stations as well as installation of the station counters and sink. In the lower level component of Holden’s engagement center, the renovations to the Residence Hall Association office continue with the framing of two new windows and an interior office door connecting the RHA office to a conference room.

At Holden Hall, much of the current progress is being made in the dining facility and includes the construction of a new wall framework for the kitchen, dish room and dining venues.

Now that all furniture and fixtures are moved out of Holden, construction is moving quickly at the hall due to the project’s short turnaround time. Metal framework for all of the new walls within the dining hall are now in place.
In the basement, where the engagement center is to be located, the hallway flooring has been removed and the current RHA office is receiving new electrical wiring.

Construction workers at Holden Hall are busy emptying all interior sites of furniture and fixtures, making way for work to begin soon.
