Bailey Hall - Brody Neighborhood

Bailey Hall

Planning has begun for renovations to Bailey Hall. Bailey will be under construction from May 2011 through July 2012. Bailey’s first-, second-, third- and fourth-floor common areas will be completely renovated. New study, game, office and meeting spaces will carve out sections of the existing common areas on each of the four floors. The first floor will have a redesigned reception, office, vending, mail sorting and trash and recycling areas. The third floor will be home to the communal laundry room and kitchen. All of Bailey Hall’s communal bathrooms will also be renovated. Check out the brochure (PDF) for more information.

In Bailey Hall, renovations continue with workers adding finishing touches to the tiling in the community bathrooms on floors two, three and four. On the second floor, walls are in place where MSU’s Residential Initiative for the Study of the Environment (RISE) program will have offices. In addition, workers are beginning to construct walls in the two-bedroom apartment.

The community bathroom on floor three is equipped with sinks, makeup countertops and showers. Flooring has been placed in all residence rooms on the third floor, along with lighting. Workers have placed a blue plastic covering over the lighting for protection.

The multimedia space, located in the third floor’s commons area, features a nearly completed ceiling. The ceiling features include some exposed pipes surrounded by decorative ceiling constructions for an industrial, yet stylish feel. Also in the commons area is the community kitchen, which now has walls separating the space from the hallway that runs through the area.

In the lobby of Bailey Hall, workers are continuing to construct metal framing around the reception desk and mailbox area. Hallway walls on floors two, three and four have been primed. Additionally, workers are setting up electrical boxes throughout the residence hall.

Also on the third floor, workers are busy installing fire suppression systems in the resident wings.

Demolition in the resident bathrooms is complete, making way for workers to begin remodeling. Similar to Emmons Hall, Bailey Hall’s study areas will feature floor-to-ceiling windows and workers continue to prep for demolition all through those areas. Demolition of exterior balconies will begin soon. To avoid waste, bricks and concrete extracted from the construction process will be repurposed and used again where needed.

In Bailey Hall, three neighboring residence hall rooms were painted by the MSU Design and Construction Management team, each in a different color. The idea behind the project is ultimately for DCM to hold an open house of the rooms, inviting people — especially students — to participate in the final paint decision to be used throughout the building.
